fewer distractions, more time!

It's amazing how much more time you have when you cut out some of the distractions in your life. Today I've been, dare I say it? BORED!

I'm hiding my phone for the rest of the night and probably all day tomorrow. I'll keep it around in case of an emergency, but I won't be using it for any other reason. It's so distracting. Today in class I got caught checking it, and then I realized when I sat down to do my homework, I didn't have a clue about what we discussed in class. ALSO, I realized the other day when I sat down to do my Bible study, that I wasn't able to focus on God's word because my friends were texting me, and I was texting back. So I'm hiding it. I guess need to invest in an alarm clock and greeting cards.

I also deleted my facebook account today. DELETED it. This is a huge deal for me. If you think my phone sounds like a distraction, you should see me with facebook. It's ridiculous how much I use it. The chat feature is awesome and I can stay so connected with my friends on it. But then today, it hit me... I'm more attatched to my facebook than I am to the friends anyway. I get on to see how many new comments I can get on a photo or if someone has "poked" me or to beat my friends in the number of friends they have. It's insane how addicted I am to that website. So I deleted it. I know it's kind of rash and a bit impulsive, but I think it will be for my benefit. Now maybe I can get online for research without taking a detour to facebook. And maybe I can sit down at my desk and read, without getting distracted by friends who want to chat with me.

I know I may become a little less connected with my friends, but I'll become a lot more connected with my Savior without those distractions, and a lot more connected with my school work.

Pray, though. because it's HARD work.

Hey Cousin It! aka Niece Mabry!
I LOVE the picture on your blog, and I'm so glad you have realized the error of your facebook and texting ways (although I certainly understand the value of texting in emergencies - that's what cell phone are FOR - emergencies! It's so easy for us to use these implements for convenience - how long has it been since you had to use a pay phone at a gas station? Do you even know if the gas station has a pay phone? I'll get off my soap box. I'm also glad you deleted your facebook account, although I also realize the discipline involved behind that - you are awesome! Enjoy college, enjoy the experience of your job at Fred's (have they made you Assistant Mgr. yet?) see if you can get your parents to send you to China to pick up your new cousin (I'll get in trouble for that one). Love you Mabry! Glad you're livin' and learning!

Oh Mabes...your beautiful hair! I miss you!
Good for you in being disciplined! I will pray that God will redeem your time and bless your socks off! You will be richly rewarded for living a "disciplined and prudent life". I am SO proud of you! I blog way too much. I would sleep a lot more and be happier in the mornings if I could just lay off my blogging late at night! It IS a great way to stay connected...but when it interferes with God's purposes in our daily life, time to cut it out! Thanks for inspiring me!
No, I'm not deleting my blog...but I will try to be more disciplined about making myself go to bed at night!
Love you!

(((((Mabry)))))) So THAT explains why you had such a crappy day today; you stopped texting and deleted your Facebook! You're suffering from withdrawals!!! Oh, you poor thing! I'm so proud of you,baby...you always seem to do the right things even when they're hard! I hope I can be like you when I grow up! :)
Oh, and don't even ASK about China! You can go when YOU can pay for it. Our money's all tied up in the fast-food industry! ;)
